There is still good news

Easter is coming! Sooner than we might think. April 5th!

You lose a job. Or retire. There is still good news. Jesus has a call for you.

You don’t know where your life will go. Or how your life will go. There is still good news. Jesus has gone ahead.

You lose someone you care about. There is still good news. Jesus rises.

In all of life’s ups and downs, successes and failures, joys and sorrows, and ease and troubles, one truth gets us through: there is still good news.

Let’s hear some good news this Easter April 5th at 9:30 am.

Stay after for a light breakfast, egg hunt, and activities.

Can’t wait to see you!

Some other Easter things to note:

  • Invite friends and family https://www.facebook.com/share/17fNQLB8Uy/

  • Easter choir will sing. Practices March 15th, March 22nd and March 29th after service

  • Easter set up April 4th

  • I’m looking for help to make Easter meal baskets

  • Palm Sunday processional with palms on March 29th

Until then, see you Sunday at 9:30 am.

Gospel Spotlight

I get to talk with some people about purgatory this week. Do you know about purgatory?

You won’t find ‘purgatory’ in Lutheran teaching. You can find it in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. “1030 All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. 1031 The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd Ed. 2000, 268)

How would you answer?

I understand a little why people would want purgatory. It seems to give so many people who didn’t live good lives a chance to get cleaned up and be with God. That uncle who was a little rough on the edges? He can go to purgatory, and some day he can be with Jesus.

But purgatory takes away the clear promise of God. “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved”! Believing people who tell lies - saved! Believing people who are greedy - saved! Believing people who are angry - saved! Believing people who swear - saved!

We don’t need purgatory. Jesus saves sinners.

“Triune God, we praise you and thank you for bringing Tanya through surgery this week and delivering her, once again, from so much danger. We pray that you would be with her this week and support her recovery. Let Doris and her family be faithful in their care.
