Spiritual Renewal and Church Reformation

I got news this week. You may have heard it too. The United Methodist Church in town voted on October 6th to stay in the UMC and the church has already started to separate to form another. I haven’t seen public news yet, but I have this straight from people at the meeting.

I wonder what it is doing to faith, fruit, and the future of Christian congregations.

Martin Luther reminds us that when our Lord and Savior Jesus told us to repent, he meant that all of our lives should be characterized by repentance. Repentance is the path for renewal and reformation today.

We’ll celebrate the renewal and reformation October 27th.

There are a lot of good resources out there to get a sense of the impact of the Reformation. Here are just a couple:

Also on October 27th

Carpet Cleaning

The carpeting and pews at church were cleaned this week. Please be aware that many items in the building have been moved and reorganized; we will likely need to help clean up, throw items away, and move things around to resume activity.

Please come ready on Sunday to pitch in.

If you could spend an hour before then, please contact Rachel Timmermann or reply to this message.

2025 Ministry planning - forum and voters’ meeting

Our forum on Sunday October 13th addressed ministry planning for 2025. We highlighted three ways to work on the ministry in 2025.

Sadly, none of these ways directly address the approximately $22K shortfall expected for 2025. They are:

  • A Merger Team - the Merger Team will investigate and present options related to merging with local congregations

  • A Growth and Renewal Team - the Growth and Renewal Team will lead us to try the options that people suggested

  • Stewardship development -

Notes on the rest of the discussion at the forum, as well as reports for the voters’ meeting. https://peaceotsego.org/peacenews/202410voters

Please note: this is a serious situation that is worthy of your attention. We have tried to be upfront about the current reality and future possibilities.

Who have you prayed for these days? We’ve got a lot more to do to pray for the gospel to fill the homes of our community.

Pray

  • Lord God, give me the chance to know my neighbors.

  • Jesus, give me the conviction of the gospel. Make me “not ashamed”.

  • Holy Spirit, use me to share the hope of life with you.
