Overview

We’re looking for an administrative assistant/secretary to support the congregation from the time our current pastor leaves until the next resident pastor arrives. This is a period of unknown length from 4 months up to years at which time we’ll review the position.

A strong candidate has some experience with organizational administration and secretarial duties.  Because this position interacts regularly with the core church workers and the larger church body, a successful candidate will have an amicable personality. Individuals could be both more driven or laid back, but will need to self-initiate and manage themself well.

Position

  • Administrative assistant/secretary for the congregation
  • Hourly wage between $16 and $20 per hour depending on experience and skills
  • Approximately 15 - 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Schedule worked out with the council
  • No benefits or paid time off, but schedule is flexible
  • Some local, some remote work
  • Accountable to pastor and then council

Position requirements

  • A growing faith in Jesus and Christian character
  • A member in good standing of Peace
  • Proficient with productivity software (whether Microsoft, Google, Apple or others) and comfortable with desktop publishing
  • Moderate written and verbal communication ability with the English language
  • Moderate ability with software and technology
  • Some organizational ability

Duties

The successful candidate will serve the congregation at large to help ministry take place. This will likely require work in a number of areas:

  • Regular and special services
  • Communication
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Administration (assisting the council)

This will likely include the following specific work although the individual tasks may change as the situation develops:

  • Produce a service outline based on order of service, hymns, and lessons provided by the pastor
  • Produce service slides based on those service materials; depending on what software is used the majority of service content is already available in the slides
  • Produce regular (weekly?) news. News is currently published in four formats each week: website articles/events, email (also print), text, and slides. Depending on need, either the frequency (weekly?) or the availability (formats?) could be modified.
  • Develop special notices for the congregation as it navigates the interim, including any print mailings
  • Assist the council and other key volunteer staff in managing volunteers through both the use of online scheduling and paper
  • Communication necessary to do work well (interaction with congregation, pastor, denominational representatives, and the local community)
  • Some printing
  • Some purchases for the congregation

Training for specific ministry tasks and processes will be provided.

Please submit short resumes by May 25th to Peace at chuch@peaceotsego.org. Thank you!
