Come and Help (Advent 2022)

I found out that someone has cancer, someone else committed suicide, someone else was so sick that they couldn’t get out of bed, and someone else wasn’t recovering from a serious surgery.

How many of them asked for help? One. Maybe a second, after some encouragement.

Most of us aren’t very good (read “bad”) at asking for help. It doesn’t matter how bad things are, we’ll just stick it out. And figure it out ourselves.

One big problem we haven’t figured out at all is the “things are going from bad to worse” opinion. It feels like, at least to some, that the world is getting bad and falling apart.

Advent gives us a chance to ask God for help. It teaches us to call out to God and ask him for help. We expect Jesus to answer that call and come to help.

He does. Each time. Every year. He comes and helps.

One day, he will come at the end of everything.

Advent helps us call for that day to come soon.
